The View From Here

Lucent crystal oculi
Reflecting the stars
Overlooking shimmering pools
Still waters glisten with
Life below the surface
Violet irises blossoming on the edges.

Flames encroach
One window shatters
The pond pours forth
Crimson rose petals
Cascading from its depths.

No dam to hold it back
The flood engulfs the inferno
Searching to drown
As the fever consumes.

Overflowing
Trickling like tears
Sweet and bitter
Leaking from an abandoned cavity
Where water turned to wine.

Despoiled and discarded
Two fires extinguished
The embers grow cold
In the raw void.

One window remains
The stars have faded
The violet irises freeze
Desolate and uninhabitable
The pond turns to glass.

One hollow night sky
Reaching for the heavens
One dark cavern
Plunging to the underworld
Both are empty
Beautifully vacant.
